Trip Overview
Travel beyond Egypt’s classic sightseeing route on a 10-day journey that combines Cairo and Giza with the open landscapes, fossil valleys, desert camps and oasis communities of the Western Desert. The itinerary is designed for travelers who want both the country’s iconic ancient monuments and a deeper look at its desert character.
Begin in Cairo with the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Valley Temple, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the historic atmosphere of Al-Muizz Street, the Citadel of Saladin and Khan El Khalili. From the capital, the route turns southwest to Fayoum for Magic Lake, Gebel El Mudawara and Wadi El Hitan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its extraordinary prehistoric whale fossils.
The journey then continues into the Western Desert and the surreal White Desert before reaching Dakhla and Kharga. Explore Al Qasr, traditional mud-brick architecture, local workshops, Deir El Hagar, Roman tombs, natural hot springs and the historic El Bagawat necropolis before returning to Cairo.
